Profiles in Giving - Corporate

Castine Candle

The Castine Candle Company of Benton, Maine, has selected The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing to benefit from their “Candles for a Cause” line.  They have created a “HOPE” candle collection in honor of The Patrick Dempsey Center, and have designated that 10%-30% of profits for HOPE candles sold will be donated directly to the Center.  To purchase a HOPE collection candle, please visit anywhere that Castine Candles are sold, or visit their online shop at www.castinecandle.com.

Mad Gabs

Mad Gabs, inc., is a Maine-based company that creates unique, all-natural body care products such as lip balm, sunscreen, body balms, and more.  When Mad Gabs learned that The Dempsey Center was planning to include their SPF-protection sunscreen and lip balms in their Kid’s Comfort Packs, Gabrielle Melchionda, founder and president of Mad Gab’s, immediately contacted The Center to offer a discounted rate on the products, saving the Center resources that will allow them to create and distribute more packs to children whose loved one has cancer.  To learn more about Mad Gabs, visit www.madgabs.com.

CMMC Associates

An important component of the Central Maine Healthcare Development Office is the Associate Volunteer Program which primarily consists of representatives from many local businesses, as well as volunteers who have served for up to the 18 years that the program has been in existence.  Associate members are our ambassadors and advocate on behalf of Central Maine Medical Center in their workplace, with their friends and family, and in our community.  They provide valuable services as goodwill ambassadors, friend/fund raisers and as financial supporters for Central Maine Medical Center.

As fund raisers and “friend raisers”, Associates are instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to benefit hospital programs and services. The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing was the beneficiary of the following special events:  Beginning with the 2008 Fall Golf Classic, $110,000 was raised; the 2009 Gala, raised a total of $77,000; a Community Business Drive in Spring of 2009, raised $7,000 towards the purchase of Kids Comfort Packs; most recently, the 2009 Fall Golf Classic raised $93,000.  The total raised by our volunteers over the past two years is an impressive $287,000!

Our Associates are currently working on our next event which will again benefit The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. CMMC’s Annual Spring Gala will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Kora Shrine Center in Lewiston, Maine.  The committee which consists of Chair Jen Pike, Bedard Medical, Sharon Poulin and Cathy DiVello from the Woman’s Hospital Association, Karyn Small, E.A. Buschmann, Inc., Christine Bosse, Bangor Savings Bank, Celine Gauthier, Thayer Corporation, Ron Peyser, Gamache & Lessard, Bob Bernier, Advantage Gases & Tools, and Nancy Brown, Be Remembered…Send Out Cards, have been working hard to make this year’s annual Spring Gala a huge, financial success!

Central Maine Medical Center is very fortunate to have such a caring, compassionate, and dedicated group of volunteers to help with its fundraising efforts.  They are very enthusiastic about the work they do, and we sincerely appreciate their efforts.
