Financial Resource Counseling Medical bills and other financial challenges are often a significant concern for cancer patients. To help our patients navigate the financial challenges that cancer can bring, the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing offers the services of a qualified Financial Resource Counselor as an integral part of the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center care team. Financial counseling can bring peace of mind about medical expenses, allowing patients and their families to focus on the more important tasks of healing.  Services provided by the Financial Resource Counselor may include: Estimates for future treatments, co-pays, and deductibles based on diagnosis and chosen treatment modalities. Assistance with questions about billing statements and personal balance owed. Help with understanding insurance benefits and obligations. Assistance with completing paperwork for Patient Assistance Programs, which provide free or low cost prescription medicine to people who are uninsured or underinsured. Assistance with Mainecare applications Assistance with Mainecare disability applications Assistance with completing the Central Maine Healthcare Free Care application Guidance through the appeals process if denial of coverage occurs.
