The following cancer-related support groups meet regularly in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Check the Dempsey Center Events Calendar for information about specific meeting dates, times and locations. In the event of inclement weather, check the calendar to determine if the meeting has been cancelled or postponed.
Cancer Wellness and Support Group
By combining support with education, this group teaches participants skills to enhance wellness and healing.
Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Conference Room I on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

Caring Connections: Support for People Living with Advanced Cancer
Biweekly support group for people living with advanced cancer, facilitated by a licensed clinical oncology social worker.
Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

CLIMB (Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery):
Designed for children ages 6 to11 whose parent or grandparent has cancer, this program offers six weekly, one-hour meetings during which conversation and art are used to help children identify and appropriately express complex feelings. The children are given their own workbook to capture their progress and to share with their family at home.
Program is free but preregistration is required.

I Can Cope
Four-week education and support group developed by the American Cancer Society to help people with cancer better understand and cope with the illness. Also open to family members and friends.

Living With Cancer
Second Wednesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the oncology practice waiting room at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Call 777-4445.
Look Good, Feel Better
This American Cancer Society program helps patients cope with changes in appearance related to cancer and treatment. Participants are provided a free high-quality cosmetics kit and taught by a licensed professional how to use the products to look and feel their best.
Sessions are offered the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon in the Wig & Prosthetic Resource Room in the Sam and Jennie Breast Care Center at CMMC. This service is available to all cancer patients -- not just those with breast cancer.

For free individual wig or turban consultations with a trained Look Good, Feel Better cosmetologist, call Sandi Piper at 345-9048 or Linda Spugnardi at 783-7765.
PIP’s (Pretty in Pink) Breast Cancer Survivor Group
Group meets the third Monday of each month for socialization and support. Facilitated by two breast cancer survivors, this group meets in a home setting.

Prostate Support Group
Education and support for men and families living with prostate cancer. Last Wednesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Chairmen’s Room C on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building. Sessions involve both guest presenters and open discussion forums. Group facilitator is Sarah Lawson-Link, R.N., O.C.N.
