OPEN POSITION: Associate Events Manager

The Associate Events Manager will be based in Lewiston, ME, with occasional travel to events and Dempsey Center South Portland office.

Associate Events Manager is an interim position designed to transition to the Dempsey Center Events Manager position following the 2019 Dempsey Challenge (contingent upon satisfactory performance during the interim period). The Associate Events Manager will assist, and train with the Events Manager on all aspects of the Dempsey Challenge, and other events, including pre and post event activities.

The Events Manager oversees the planning and execution of all fundraising events for the Dempsey Center, inclusive of the Dempsey Challenge run, walk and cycle event which is the organization’s signature fundraiser. The Events Manager is part of the Advancement team and works to set goals for overall fundraising efforts and helps generate ideas and action plans for event-based revenue. The Events Manager directs the full life cycle of events from concept through post-event and engages internal staff and external partners, vendors and volunteers in order to successfully execute events.


  • Engage Dempsey Challenge event participants and minimize barriers to participation:
    • Learn fundraising platform (TeamRaiser) and help troubleshoot issues with participants
    • Assist with donation entry
    • Run and analyze TeamRaiser reports
    • Manage participant communication channels (event hotline and inbox)
  • Assist with recruitment and management of Challenge volunteers:
    • Learn volunteer registration platform (Volunteer Hub) and train others on its use
    • Run point on Dempsey Challenge Cheer Stations
  • Support fundraising for the Dempsey Challenge, and other events:
    • Assist Fundraising Coordinator with fundraising and outreach efforts as needed
    • Assist with fundraising incentive communication and fulfillment
  • Assist with Dempsey Challenge logistics to ensure smooth implementation:
    • Manage Certificates of Insurance for the Dempsey Challenge
    • Work with team to plan layout and logistics for the Dempsey Challenge Festival in the Park
    • Assist Events Manager with creation of, and adherence to Runs of Show
    • Assist Events Manager with additional administrative and planning duties


  • Associate degree required; Bachelor degree is preferred
  • Min 5 years event management experience
  • Experience working in non-profit organizations a plus
