DESCRIPTION:Space to Breathe is an adventure-based therapeutic camp for teens ages 12-18 who have been impacted by a parent or sibling’s cancer. The 4-day\, 3-night program gives teens a chance to challenge themselves and build resilience while forging strong bonds with other teens who “get it.”\n\nFacilitated by both clinical counselors and outdoor leadership professionals at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro\, ME.\n\nOpen to teens ages 12-18 who have been impacted by a parent or sibling’s cancer.  Registration is free and is limited on a first-come first-served basis.\n\nOnline sign up is not available for this event. SUMMARY:Teen Tie-Dye Family Night [Lewiston]
DESCRIPTION:The beauty of tie-dye is that it doesn’t care about codes or norms and lets anyone express their true colors. It’s a completely free form of expression that allows you to create a unique piece of wearable art and find the beauty in the ripple effect of small imperfections. The therapeutic benefits of tie-dye include focusing on planning\, acceptance and releasing control. Experiencing it all by joining us and other teens and their parents/caregivers impacted by cancer for a fun evening of tie-dyeing!\n\nPlain white t-shirts will be provided for those who pre-register. Teens planning to attend Space to Breathe may choose to tie-dye their camp shirt in preparation for camp or families can tie-dye shirts for the Dempsey Challenge. Meet other youth impacted by cancer and learn fun dog-inspired yoga movements through beginner yoga practice while bonding with our therapy dogs. All materials are provided\, and all youth participants will leave with a set of their very own Dempsey Doga cards.\n\nDempsey Dogs are trained and registered by Pet Partners. Therapy dogs can help to provide emotional support and alleviate stress\, improve moods\, and help kids to gain the strength and confidence to overcome challenges they might face. DESCRIPTION:Create your own torn tissue paper abstract during Family Night at the Dempsey Center. We will be tearing and layering different colors of tissue paper to create art that speaks to you. This practice will foster mindfulness and being in the present moment\, letting go of expectations\, and helping reduce stress—all of which are useful coping skills when dealing with a cancer impact\, uncertainty\, and other challenging situations.\nFamily Night at the Dempsey Center offers clients an opportunity to connect with other families impacted by cancer.
