Prevention

The best way to reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases is to be well informed on how the choices we make every day can improve our health. Our outreach program is designed specifically to offer people the tools and knowledge they need to lead healthier lives.

Community Health Outreach Education

Informing, Educating, and Empowering the Community

The best places to deliver health and wellness education are where people live, work and play. That’s why the Dempsey Center gives informational presentations at schools, worksites, colleges, community organizations and in many other settings.

We offer dynamic, interactive presentations and workshops that address living a healthy lifestyle. Topics can include:

  • Healthy behaviors that will reduce the risk of cancer
  • Information about the importance of early detection
  • Cancer screening opportunities and programs
  • Community programs, such as tobacco cessation classes
  • Education on how to effectively support a staff member/co-worker diagnosed with cancer
  • Information about the programs, services, and volunteer opportunities of the Dempsey Center

Testimonials

Some of the workers didn’t know how much the skin damage is caused by working outside in the sun. The training (we received) was so effective that most days in the summer it was popular to have “sunscreen breaks”. We had our entire construction crew applying sunscreen to themselves several times a day!
