This class teaches children the basics of cancer in a way they can understand. Through a private guided tour of the infusion center at New England Cancer Specialists and the radiation therapy department at Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute, children and their parents/caregivers will be able to see and explore treatment areas and ask questions of the oncology care providers.
The class is best suited to children ages 6+ in families where an adult family member has been diagnosed with cancer and is either in, about to begin, or recently completed active cancer treatment. Advance registration is required to attend this class.
The class will be led by Kailie Sullivan, LCSW, OSW-C and Patti Sands, LCSW from the Dempsey Center and oncology care providers at Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute and New England Cancer Specialists.
NOTE: Cancer 101 will meet at the Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute Learning Resource Center, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough.
