Digital Equity Assistant (Non-Client Facing Position)

POSITION: Digital Equity Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Technology Manager

Schedule and Hours: Monthly; 1-2 hours a shift.

Position Summary 

The Digital Equity volunteer helps with the functions of the technology team within the Operations department of the Dempsey Center. The volunteer in this role assists with performing check-in calls to clients who have received technology as part of the Dempsey Center’s digital equity program.  

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Perform three-month checkin calls, following scripted questions. 
  • Refer technology questions to Technology Manager. 
  • Leave call back information when applicable.
  • Document the outcome of the call (call back needed with questions, attempt made, etc.) using Microsoft Excel.  
  • Other tasks as assigned.  


  • Excellent verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Attention to detail  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and data entry 
  • Proficient with Zoom phone 
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Reliable attendance 
  • Empathic and caring, open minded, dependable with a healthy sense of humor always appreciated
  • Demonstrates Dempsey Center core values and displays a passion for the Center’s mission to make life better for people impacted by cancer

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for duration of shift (up to 2 hours)
  • Ability to type for duration of shift (up to 2 hours)

General Requirements:

  • Must attend Dempsey Experience Training.
  • Maintains professional behavior, dress, and appearance at all times while volunteering.
  • Must use discretion and protect the confidentiality of all Dempsey Center clients.; HIPAA-specific training will be provided.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, Board members, donors, prospects, volunteers, consultants, advisors, and members of the community.

Required for all Volunteers: 

  • Background check
  • Annual flu immunization or declination notice
