Our South Portland Office is moving to Rock Row!

We’re proud to share that we are moving to the Rock Row Health Campus in Westbrook, Maine in early 2025. Here, we will serve clients in person and virtually as they move through their cancer journeys.

Here’s what you can expect with our upcoming move…

As we prepare to move our South Portland operations to Rock Row in Westbrook, we hope that it will cause little to no disruption to the client experience. We appreciate everyone’s patience with us and understanding as we clean, pack, and reopen in our new space.

With the move, there will be a brief interruption to services in South Portland, but our team will still be offering support virtually or in Lewiston during the transition period.

We currently expect our South Portland office to close at end of business day on Thursday, February 6th. Programs will then move to Rock Row with a staggered reopening. Most in-person programs will resume the weeks of February 17th and 24th. Please review any in-person programs you have signed up for to confirm the program’s location. There will be no staffing at our South Portland location after February 6th.

How to Get to Rock Row

Rock Row is an innovative, mixed-use district located in Westbrook, Maine near Larrabee Road and Portland’s Nasons Corner. With restaurants, shops, Market Basket, the Quarryside Event Garden, and other great businesses, Rock Row has it all! The Health Campus is located in the south end of Rock Row, closest to Westbrook Arterial.

Directions from Dempsey Center – South Portland to Rock Row Health Campus

Begin at the Dempsey Center South Portland location (778 Main St. South Portland, ME)…

Via I-95 (toll road)
Take a right onto Main Street and turn left onto ME-703/Samantha Smith Way. Merge onto I-95N. Take exit 47 for Rand Road/ME-25 toward Westbrook Arterial. Use the left two lanes to turn left onto ME-25W/Westbrook Arterial. After crossing the bridge, look for signs for the Rock Row Health Campus on your right. Park in the parking garage, cross the catwalk on the second floor, and navigate to the fourth floor within the building. Follow the signs to the Dempsey Center.

Via I-295 (no tolls)
Turn right onto Main Street and move into the middle lane to turn left onto ME-703/Samantha Smith Way. Take the exit toward I-295N/Portland and merge onto ME-701. Using the two left lanes, merge onto I-295N toward Portland. Take exit 5 toward Fore River Parkway for US-1 ALT W. Keep right and follow signs for Fore River Parkway/Commercial Street. Take the exit toward the Portland Transportation Center/Congress Street/ME-22 and merge onto Fore River Parkway. Turn left onto Congress Street and then in .5 miles, take a right onto Stevens Ave. Take a left onto Capisic Street, travel 1.2 miles, then turn left onto Brighton Ave. Follow Brighton to Main Street in Westbrook, then take a left into Rock Row. Follow the signs to the Rock Row Health Campus. Park in the parking garage, cross the catwalk on the second floor, and navigate to the fourth floor within the building. Follow the signs to the Dempsey Center.

Why are you closing the South Portland Office?

The space we have been occupying at 778 Main Street in South Portland has served us well since our merge with the Cancer Community Center in 2018. As our services have expanded and more cancer patients, survivors, care partners, bereaved, youth, families, and loved ones have accessed support, we found that additional space was needed to accommodate everyone.

Will this move affect the Lewiston location or virtual services?

Our Lewiston location is our flagship location and where our roots will always be. We intend for the South Portland location to enhance our existing offerings both in-person and virtually to all clients who choose to access our services. We do not expect that our new location will hinder or impair the offerings provided in Lewiston. We hope our virtual services will be enhanced with our new location with new opportunities, technology, and space to offer them. Please note that we will be shifting some furniture and items from Lewiston to Rock Row, but that is not an indication that our presence in Lewiston is ending.

Where do I park at Rock Row?

A free parking garage is located directly next to the Medical Office Building with a catwalk connecting the two buildings. Please park in the parking garage, or in handicapped parking if you have a placard, and make your way to the fourth floor.

What services will be offered at Rock Row?

All of our services will be available at our new space in the Rock Row Medical Office Building. We will have private counseling rooms, support group spaces, community acupuncture rooms, reiki + massage rooms, a movement and fitness space, Hannaford Demonstration Kitchen, age-friendly spaces for youth support, wig fitting room, private consultation rooms, and more! Dempsey Dogs will continue to be on premises at their scheduled times.

Can I tour the space before you open? Can I stop by for a tour after you reopen?

We are thrilled that you are just as excited to see our new space at Rock Row as we are! Our primary focus is reopening to continue caring for our clients as soon as possible once we are able to move into Rock Row’s Health Campus. Because of this, clients, donors, supporters, and other members of the Dempsey Center community will be unable to see the space until we have reopened. We are thrilled to share that we will be holding an Open House for all stakeholders and the public in early March and our Client Care Team is preparing a few offerings of our “Connect + Experience” program to allow the public to see the space and experience a Dempsey Center program. Please check our Program Guide or our Public Programs page for the full schedule. We kindly ask that donors, supporters, and members of the community do not stop by for walk-in tours of the space so that staff may focus on supporting clients. Is the Dempsey Center now affiliated with New England Cancer Specialists?

We are so grateful to be able to share a building with our friends at New England Cancer Specialists. While we are grateful that NECS chooses to support us and the clients who utilize our services, we are not affiliated with or owned by NECS. The close proximity of both organizations will offer convenience to NECS patients, but we will continue to provide our services to anyone regardless of where you are receiving treatment, cancer impact, or city/town of residence. We are here to support you through it all.
