LOCATION: Westbrook, Maine or Lewiston, Maine
SCHEDULE AND HOURS: As Needed/Substitute
Position Summary :
The Per Diem Acupuncturist provides high-quality acupuncture treatments on an as-needed basis, supporting continuity of care during staff absences or periods of increased demand. This role delivers individualized treatments and ensures a safe and professional patient experience. Acupuncture is offered in a community acupuncture setting. Each acupuncture clinic is 3 hours in length and serves approximately 10 clients. Dempsey Center Acupuncturists are independent contractors and are paid $145 per clinic.
Responsibilities:
- Developsan appropriate treatment plan, based on a client’s health history and best practice in acupuncture.
- Updates treatment plan based on the client’s response to intervention, status, needs and reassessment.
- Advises client indications and contraindications for acupuncture and suggests alternative modes of treatment supported by current acupuncture literature/research.
- Delivers treatment in compliance with the Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Maintains compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Adheres to infection control and safety policies.
Qualifications:
- Highly effective communication skills (speaking, reading, writing, active listening, etc.).
- Ability to meet job performance measures with minimal oversight and guidance.
- Highly organized and detailed oriented.
- Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to make well-reasoned decisions.
- Ability to express and maintain an open and confident mindset as well as a positive attitude.
- Knowledge of hand hygiene
- Demonstrated understanding of traditional Chinese, Japanese, Five Element, Korean and Vietnamese traditions
- Demonstrated proficiency in clean needle technique including counting needles
- Ability to educate clients on needling including explanation of points used
Licensure, Registration, and Certification
- State of Maine Acupuncture License
- Graduate of an approved school of Oriental Medicine and/or Traditional Chinese Medicine accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) with a minimum of one thousand eight hundred fifty hours of training or licensed physician trained in acupuncture. Active status preferred as a Diplomate in Acupuncture of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Minimum of two years’ experience in providing acupuncture services to the public.
- Acupuncturist must maintain current professional liability (malpractice) insurance coverage throughout the duration of employment.

Dexterity:
- Must be able to exert moderate physical effort with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and frequently lift and carry material weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions
Works regularly under desirable conditions with little or no disagreeable features. Illumination and ventilation are good, and distractions may be frequent. Risks of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood borne pathogens are minimal.
